Darren Alfred, widely known as "Coach Darren," is the co-founder of R3 Fast Track, working alongside Coach Kyle to build one of the most respected track clubs in the sport. With a wealth of experience as a seasoned athlete, Coach Darren brings unparalleled passion and expertise to our team, specializing in the 400m and 200m events.
Athletic Background and Achievements
Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Darren’s journey in track and field began in high school, where he excelled in the 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m events, with the 400m being his favorite. His talent and dedication earned him the Victor Ludorum trophy during his tenure at Scarborough Secondary School in Tobago.
Darren’s breakthrough came in the 2017 National Championships, where he placed 6th in the 400m, ranking as the 6th fastest in the nation that year. His exceptional performance earned him a spot at the World University Games in Taipei, Taiwan, where he placed 8th overall, showcasing his prowess on an international stage at the second largest competition after the Olympic Games.
At Saint Augustine’s University, Darren continued to shine, winning gold in the 400m, 4x100m, and 4x400m at the 2019 CIAA Championship. That same year, he played a crucial role in his team’s victory at the NCAA Championships in the 4x400m, earning All-American status. In 2019, Darren was selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar, where he competed against the world’s best and helped his team reach the finals in the 4x400m.
Educational Background
Darren holds a certificate in Sports Studies from the University of Trinidad and Tobago and a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from Saint Augustine’s University in North Carolina. His educational background, combined with his athletic experience, equips him with the knowledge and skills to excel as a coach.
Coaching Philosophy
Beyond his personal achievements, Coach Darren has a proven track record of mentoring young athletes to reach their full potential. Under his guidance, athletes have earned All-American honors at prestigious events such as the AAU Club Championships, with standout performances from 8-and-under girls, 9-and-under boys, and 10-and-under athletes. His athletes have excelled individually and thrived in relay teams, reflecting Coach Darren’s strong emphasis on teamwork and strategic race planning.
